Current Water Taste and Odor Issue:

The district is currently experiencing a taste and odor issue in the water.  This is only an aesthetic issue not a water quality issue.  The reason why this is happening is the presence of MIB (2-Methylisoborneol) and Geosmin in the water created by algae during the hot time of the year when the water temperature is higher.  The district is prone to this due to how we store our water.  The only way that the district can remove these byproducts is through feeding powdered activated carbon during treatment.  We are only able to feed carbon into plant 2, which is our conventional treatment plant.  We cannot feed carbon into the membrane plant due to the jaggedness of the carbon.  It would cut the membranes and create more problems.  We are currently producing more water out of plant 2 to produce more aesthetically pleasing water which blends with plant 1 water to reduce the taste and odor.  Due to the limitations of plant 1, we are unable to completely remove the taste and odor issue.  Once the temperature cools down, this issue will go away. Thank you for your understanding while we do our best to ameliorate this issue.
