The Real Impact of “Losing” 5 MILLION GALLONS OF WATER…

The Real Impact of “Losing” 5 MILLION GALLONS OF WATER…

Residents have expressed concerns over “Losing” 5 Million Gallons of water due to the recent accident involving the Fire Hydrant on June 24, 2021.

The real concern is how this will impact the Community, so we thought we would put it into perspective.

·        Over 99% of the water that flowed out of the Fire Hydrant went into Clementia Reservoir, which was less than 50 feet from the Hydrant. Clementia is Rancho Murieta’s emergency drinking water supply. So, we retained the water, it’s just in a different location.

·        We have OVER 1 BILLION gallons of water stored in our three reservoirs.

·        5 Million gallons of water is the amount of water that the Water Treatment Plant produces (and the Community consumes) in one and a half days during the peak summer season.

·        We have enough water in our reservoirs to last approximately two and a half years if we ADDED NO WATER had NO CONSERVATION MEASURES in place.

·        5 Million gallons of water is the amount of water that the Water Treatment Plant produces (and the Community consumes) in one and a half days during the peak summer season.

·        The amount of water that was displaced is equal to less than one inch of surface water.

·        All of the reservoirs were topped off in the winter/early spring months, so they were all completely full. This is a standing practice, and we are rarely not able to fill the reservoirs each year with water from the Cosumnes River.

We are not trying to make this accident sound trivial we just want everyone to know that this is not a dire situation, there is no fear of the District’s inability to continue to produce the highest quality of water possible, and there is plenty of water in our reservoirs to sustain the Community.
