Blue Green Algae in Chesbro

Cyanobacteria (blue green algae) has been spotted in Reservoir Chesbro to the north of the lake. Humans (and pets) can be exposed to the harmful algal blooms through accidental ingestion while swimming, by inhaling water spray (aerosols) during water recreation (such as boating), or by being in the water where a bloom is occurring. Your best bet is – “When in doubt, best keep out!”. While swimming and direct reservoir contact is not allowed for Reservoir Chesbro, it is advisable to avoid water where a visible blue-green algae bloom is present. The Reservoir is scheduled to be treated on the 21st of this month in order to prevent the expansion of the cyanobacteria and to proactively protect our water supply
