On March 15, 2023, the Rancho Murieta Community Services District received a report from the Sacramento County Civil Grand Jury.
The Civil Grand Jury Report includes 12 findings and 13 recommendations. Under California law, the District must prepare formal responses to the Report’s findings and recommendations and we intend to do so. The District’s Board of Directors will consider approval of the formal responses at a future public meeting in May 2023.
“We are just starting to review the Grand Jury’s report,” said Board President Timothy Maybee. “The Grand Jury recognized the District has done a good job of performing its essential functions at good value to customers. But there are areas where we can improve – particularly when it comes to accounting. The report recognizes the District takes these issues seriously and they have been our top priority in recent years. We appreciate the Grand Jury’s input on additional steps we could take.”
The District has already taken measures to improve our accounting practices with the help of internal staff and outside consultants. Improving our accounting practices is our top priority and we won’t be satisfied until every penny is accounted for. We appreciate the Grand Jury’s input and will use it to help improve our accounting systems and other financial aspects at the District.
“The Board looks forward to working with staff and legal counsel to prepare formal responses and discussing the responses at a future Board meeting and will keep our customers apprised of our progress”
